The Actions of Others

Sometimes I don't know why certain things happen the way that they do. Anymore, the actions of others seem even more complicated than the math that some of my basketball players have to do on a daily basis.

But although I can't control the actions of others. I do know that I can control my actions. That gives me so much more satisfaction and piece of mind than anything else.

Below is a video of Lou Holtz giving a pep talk to the New York Knicks. I think that I am going to try to transcribe this speech because it is absolutely amazing! I mean, after hearing the speech, I was ready to play for the Knicks and I love the Celtics!

Finally! The Celtics are Back!

As my Celtics seem to be inching closer and closer to bringing Kevin Garnett to Boston, I am having extreme difficulty in typing this blog post! There is no better way to put it so I am just going to say it!

The Boston Celtics are back!

If the deal is as sure as everyone says it is then the Celtics will once again have a big three (even though we all know that Bird, Parish, an McHale will always have that term on reserve). This time the three will compose of Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen.

In a way, this trade reminds me a lot of my younger days of playing NBA video games (back during the days of the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis) where I would always bring in big time players to play for my favorite team. Xavier McDaniel for Alonzo Mourning was always a big favorite of mine. Sorry X-man! Zo was awesome back then!

Never in a million years did I think that my team would make the kind of roster moves that only exist within the imagination of a child.

To me, a championship or a trip to the NBA Finals would be nice but for me I am just glad that my beloved Celtics are actually doing SOMETHING!

But besides this jubilation and memories of making trades on video games before you had to actually consider the salary cap, the weather was absolutely perfect today for my first tennis practice of the season. There is no better weather for tennis than a sunny blue sky and comfortable temperatures in the mid to upper 70's.

The practice went great! The team is composed of some great young men who truly know the meaning of dedication as it has been quite some time since I have seen a tennis team work as hard as they did this morning.

It was a great feeling! So, for now, I will end this blog post to get some rest since I will need my energy for both practice and my online shopping at the NBA store for Kevin Garnett gear. Go Celtics!

Goodbye DJ

Dennis Johnson
9/18/54 - 2/22/07

As if things could not get any worse for the Boston Celtics this year, they have lost another one of their own.

The former point guard Dennis Johnson, better known to players and fans as "DJ", passed away today at the age of 52.

As a player, Dennis Johnson was well respected throughout the league during his 13 year career which included five NBA All-Star selections, nine NBA All-Defensive Team selections, and most notably three NBA World Championships (Seattle '79 & Boston '84, '86).

But what DJ will most be remembered for was his tireless effort both on and off the court. He was a great friend to his teammates as well as a true role model for every kid who is not blessed with natural athletic ability.

He will be missed. Thanks for the memories DJ!
