My Trip to Georgia is featured in Local Newspaper

I have been wanting to make a post that talked about my trip to meet Jimmy Carter last week.

However, the local newspaper wrote an article that describes the trip so much better than I ever could.

It is a great article. Check it out below!

My trip to Plains, Georgia, is featured in local Newspaper Article.

Time to Walk

Isn't it a great feeling when you do not have any tests to study for and you are wide awake? Unlike many of my colleagues, there will be no more tests for me this week.

As is customary with insomnia, I spent a little time perusing Facebook this evening. With the midterm elections less than two months away, Facebook is allowing users to voice their support for individual candidates and the issues that are important to them.

Users will be able to find a wide range of issues to support and groups to join. Within each individual group, proponents and opponents chat about, debate, and discuss their individual opinions on each issue.

By doing so, I am glad to see people my age voicing their opinions in this year's election. However, I hope that they are doing much more than just typing words onto a computer screen.

In our current society, where a person can gain any kind of information about anything within a seconds notice, it is my belief that simply having an "educated" opinion is not enough anymore.

Words must not only be spoken but they must be acted upon within our individual neighborhoods and towns. As we move deeper into the age of technology, we cannot simply be content with just voting and having an opinion.

We must act! By doing so, we will spread our message and truly make an impact upon our society. The time has come for us to start walking!

If we are unwilling to turn our words into actions then there is only one question left for us to answer: Do we really believe in what we are saying on Facebook?

To Georgia

Well, despite hearing some sad news today about a former tennis player of mine, my day went pretty well.

I have to do a better job of posting because I have just been neglecting this blog for almost a week now.

School is going as well as school could be going at this time. Grades seem to be going very well suprisingly. The weather was very chilly today. I love it when the weather starts to get cold. Others hate it but I say, "Bring it on!"

Also, I will be keeping you posted on my trip to Georgia this weekend. My friend John and I are getting the opportunity of a lifetime to meet former U.S. President Jimmy Carter this weekend.

So far, all I have heard is that we will be leaving Indiana sometime on Friday. I will do a much better job of blogging as well as posting some pictures of the trip as well. We are both looking forward to it with much anticipation.

On the personal side, my friend Chad and I recently participated in a Debate Tournament at Purdue this past weekend. We ended up breaking to the final 8 but unfortunately had some trouble in the first round. I was very dissappointed considering we had lossed on a technicality to a team we were better than. Live and learn I guess.

Well, I must go now. It is time to hang out with some friends. Have a good one!

Back from Vacation

It has been a couple days since I last posted a blog on here. I took sort of a mini-vacation to clear my head and focus on things. Lately, I have been trying get a grip on things going on in the world around me.

In one aspect of my life, I have been progressively letting go to something that I used to hold very tightly. In retrospect, I have become a cynic who sees the past version of myself in this aspect.

It is as if I can see what is going to happen to that positive energy long before it does happen. The fear of being wrong is not as great as the fear of being right in these cases.

In other aspects of my life, I have a renewed hope in things to come. Unlike the previous aspect, I see the benefits of my great work making themselves present with each step that I take as I make my mark.

If only there was less cynicism from others in this aspect of my life and more in the other. I think the world would be a different place if that were true.

The best and greatest thing about it is that it is the masses decision on what deserves cynicism and what deserves hope. I just wish that things were reversed.

It isn't enough to have an opinion and educated reasons for that opinion. Much more must be done than simply forming an opinion. We are past the point of our society needing more resources of information.

We have come to the time when our society needs to make our opinions known on more than just one day every year or two. We will not be judged by how intellectual our opinions are but by what we did with those opinions.

Generation Facebook

Today was an average day. Nothing too out of the ordinary however I was surprised to see an article on Time.com discussing the controversial issue surrounding Facebook - the News Feed.

For those who do not know, Facebook is a social network in which people are able to connect with friends and former classmates in a way that only technology could ever provide.

Recently, Facebook came out with a new item - the News Feed. In this case it looks like any other facebook item except that it allows other users to see users' every move from who they befriended to who has now hooked up with who.

It is causing a world of controversy among the people of my generation who use facebook. In the TIME article, the author is using a the very name of this social network to describe my generation.

It is very fascinating to think that in all the time that I have been a user on this social network, I have never thought of the people my age being known as Generation Facebook.

Read the article! Have a good one!

Not Living Up to Expectations

I apologize for not doing a better job of blogging lately. It has been a rough couple of days for me and I mostly have been trying to find time just to get away from everything.

The Labor Day festivities were a good time. It's always nice to see friendly faces and like minded people when on the campaign trail. It was funny because a lot of people thought that I had spent some time on a lake considering my arms were a little burnt/tanned.

I love campaigning and meeting people but there are sometime when I start to doubt myself. Just when things seem to be going well, it seems as if I am not able to live up to expectations.

I guess that is my biggest fear of all - not living up to others expectations of me. Of course, I am reminded of my childhood teachings of one should only do something only for self-satisfaction and personal growth.

Lately, I am coming to believe that the person who said this never really did anything in life. Whether we like it or not, others have expectations of us. Whether or not we live up to them is to be decided by these people.

I know that I am supposed to do things only for myself but the fear of doing a bad job and letting others down is what drives me. I just wish I knew where I stood instead of always having to find creative ways to find out as if I am conducting a secret poll or something.
