We KNOW Responsibility
I have not written in a while but a story in the news recently angered me. Representative Chuck Rangel has proposed a new military draft to increase troop numbers in the fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world.
I am strongly opposed to the reinstatement of the draft as proposed by Rep. Charles Rangel. Many of our Representatives and Senators voted to send the people of my generation into a war based on lies and deceptions. My generation deserves so much more.
When the people of my generation come back, not only have they been denied basic healthcare but also have been disrespected by the same people who sent them to Iraq. I am happy that this measure was defeated two years ago and will be defeated again.
For those at home, it has been equally difficult. Many of us have lost friends in the fighting. A friend of mine almost a year or two ago lost someone they knew and to see the pain in their eyes deeply affected me.
As I was reading some of the view comments on CNN, one quote caught my eye. It was from a fellow Hoosier. He stated that if nothing else, it would teach the people of my generation responsibility.
How dare he say this! I have news for this person: My Generation knows responsibility!
My generation knows responsibility when many of us work over 40 hours a week to go to school and support ourselves without any help from the government!
My generation knows responsibility when they willingly join our armed services to fight for our country!
My generation knows responsibility when we will be the ones winning the war on terror, cutting the national debt, and dealing with the effects of the current administration that will take decades to repair.
If anything, my generation is the embodiment of responsibility. For those who think my generation is nothing more than a bunch of computer loving, ipod listening, technology obsessed nerds, you have no idea what we are capable of doing and have no right to judge us without looking in the mirror.
We will have plenty of work to do when the generation before us passes on. And you can trust me when I say this, we will be much more responsible than our leaders who have dropped the ball and forgotten the American people.
